Masa is a specialist in chemistry. He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering in 1988 and a Master of Engineering in 1990 from Kyoto University. Then he proceeded to a doctoral course at Kyoto University and got a Ph.D. in 1993 in the field of physical organic chemistry. Masa was affiliated with Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. from 1993-1998 where he conducted research on polymer science at polymers laboratory. From 1995-1997, he was dispatched to University of Iowa, USA as a postdoctoral fellow with the object to digging up a new subject of research on polymer science. During his stay in USA for two years, he acquired an international way of thinking.

The fruits of Masa’s research work from 1987-1998 can be seen in many publications such as the following for instance:

Yoshida, M.; Crowther, D. J.; Jordan, R. F. Organometallics 1997, 16, 1349.
Yoshida, M.; Jordan, R. F. Organometallics 1997, 16, 4508.

Masa was then working for Matsumoto and Associate from 1998-2004 where he trained himself on domestic and international IP practice such as drafting and proceeding of application, correspondence to official action, inter partes case, and so on . He was admitted to a patent attorney’s practice before the Japan Patent Office in December 2001.

Masa can handle almost all IP matters in most of technical fields concerned with chemistry, especially in organic chemistry such as synthetic chemistry and organometallic chemistry, inorganic chemistry such as catalytic chemistry, and polymer chemistry such as material science.
